Our customer Fairmitre refurbishes 'Rogue Traders' work

Faith is restored in the home improvement industry as our customer Fairmitre refurbishes young couples home after being let down by Rogue Traders.

A YOUNG family from Penley are warning others after they were left massively out of pocket by ‘rogue traders’. Thomas and Anna Gill wanted to make some improvements to their new home.

In March last year they contacted Rae Valley Windows and Doors Ltd, run by brothers Neil and Craig Evans and based in Minsterley in south Shropshire. They wanted to refit the house with new windows and revamp their conservatory at a cost of £10,000. They paid a deposit of £4,500 to cover the cost of materials. But almost a year later, the work still hadn’t been completed.

Chasing the company up to get an update on when the work would start as they were going on holiday in May, Mr Gill stated "We found the business had actually folded five days after we paid the money. They took our money knowing they were folding the business. They did promise to honour the work with the new business they had set up and asked us to be patient – but still nothing had been done. We had been keeping in contact with them, but that stopped on December 11 2017. Frustrated, Mr Gill and his wife posted a warning to others on social media which was shared more than 600 times in less than two days and received dozens of messages from other people who claimed they had also paid money to the Evans brothers.

Luckily, our customer Fairmitre in Shropshire saw the post and Paul Jones the Managing Director felt he really wanted to help the young couple out. "Sometimes there are scenarios that crop up to which you feel compelled to do something about. For Fairmitre, this was one of those times. After reading the post online and being able to relate to the couple having a young family and being angered that a company within the industry that I have such passion for could do this to a family in our community, I was eager to help and show support by helping the family out of the situation they were stuck in.

I offered Fairmitre’s full services to finish the work they needed doing which entailed: replacement of all PVC windows, PVC and composite doors along with new conservatory frames and a complete new pre-fabricated WARMroof supplied by Prefix Systems with plastering and electrics, all for the remaining balance of their original contract broken by the cowboys. Meaning Fairmitre would cover the difference of cost therefore the family could have a finished home. We are now proud to report that we have completed the full replacement of windows, doors and garden room to their home."

Fairmitre would like to say a massive thank you to all their staff and contracts including Rob their windows and doors installer who made the transformation effortless and Dave Duncan from Fused Forest Electrical Services who in turn carried out the first and second fix electrics free of charge!

Unfortunately, rogue traders still exist and not all companies are as transparent as homeowners think. Luckily, our customer stepped in to help and we were very happy to assist with the roof - great work guys!!
