Fabrication Assistant

Prefix South West (Swansea)

An opportunity has become available for a Fabrication Assistant to join our growing team at Prefix Systems (SW), a leading aluminium fabrication specialist.

To be successful in this role you must display strong attention to detail and quality, as well as excellent communication skills and a positive attitude.  You must also be able to work well with people and demonstrate dependability through good attendance and adherence to timelines and schedules.

Preferred candidates will have experience in mechanical fabrication, in particular aluminium and/or experience in manufacturing windows and doors.  Candidates with a general manufacturing skill set who are looking to broaden their skills are also welcome to apply, as on the job training will be provided.

Specific requirements of the role are as follows:

  • Using a range of equipment and machinery.
  • Plan jobs following detailed technical drawings.
  • Maintain and clean equipment for peak performance.
  • Maintain a safe and organised workstation and follow all company policy, safety and procedures.
  • Stand for long periods of time and meet other physical demands such as walking, bending, stooping and lifting.
  • Wear the required Personal Protective Equipment at all times to prevent exposure and risk of injury to general shop floor hazards such as high noise and eye injuries.
  • Possess strong maths skills and be willing to learn new skills.
  • Be willing to provide cover for various roles across the shop floor and other duties as directed by the supervisor.

Normal working hours are Monday to Thursday 6am until 3pm and Friday 6am until 1pm.  From time to time you will be required to be flexible with your working hours by completing overtime to accommodate times of high demand.

Candidate Requirements

  • Production and Processing: knowledge of raw materials, production processes etc
  • Quality Control Analysis: conducting tests and inspections of products and processes
  • Critical Thinking: using logic and reasoning
  • Communication: an effective communicator at all levels
  • Troubleshooting: determining causes of operating errors
  • Initiative: ability to work on your own directive without constant supervision
